I'm heading a prison ministry. A ministry involved in teaching immates about God and how to lead a life that reflects God's purpose and will for us. The lessons include boundaries and decision making as well as spiritual healing. Showing them how God wants to make them complete: body, soul and spirit healed and in harmony with God and at peace with themselves and others. Part of the scope includes housing ex-offenders temporary in our home when they come out. Specifically, those with no place to go. How is that? Well, some are single women who were living by themselves at the time of their arrest. By the time they come out months later, they apartment and belongings are gone. If they had a boyfriend, he disappears and may show up a week or so after released. Others are from out of state who ended up in Dallas due to transfers or a local offense. Family abandon them specially if they are repeated offenders or just because they have brought shame to the family thru a single offense. Most of these ladies are in prison due to shoplifting, prostitution or bad check writing. Minor offenses which carry 6 - 18 months and yes, some of the term served depends if they come from small towns (more stiff sentences) or large cities. I'm learning a lot as I go along and like to share my experiences as well as listening to others who may see things I don't see being too close to these people.
I believe God gives us life and health to be useful for his kingdom, not to be concerned with the way we look or the brand of shoes or clothes we wear but to take care of others as we can and guide them to the only way, JESUS.
